Inaugurating the web portal of Digital Faisalabad, Khan said the city had made unprecedented progress in different sectors of the economy in addition to excelling in textile. He underlined the importance of information technology, which would be the main source of job creation in coming years. He told the audience present at the event that Faisalabad had 115 major software houses whereas approximately 10% of the freelance IT experts were earning $1,000 per month. He pointed out that e-commerce was growing at a much faster pace and more educated youth could be easily absorbed in the emerging and hi-tech sector.
Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Employees Federation of Pakistan (EFP) former president Mian Muhammad Adrees stated that Faisalabad was the second-largest contributor to the national economy. He stressed that in recent years Faisalabad had emerged as a major destination for IT outsourcing and production facilities.
