Bilawal questions PTI govt's stance over Ehsanullah Ehsan's escape

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari says Parliament not being used properly

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday said the legislative institution of the country – Parliament – is not being used properly.

“Today again the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Ordinance was forcefully extended, which signals overlooking the parliament,” he told reporters outside the Parliament House.

He lamented that the opposition was not given opportunity to speak on why it was opposing the PMDC Ordinance. “Every political party should have the opportunity to present its position in Parliament.”

The opposition wanted to explain why the country’s students are opposing the PMDC Ordinance, he said, adding: “Our medical students are worried and we are their voice.”

Bilawal said: “People get upset when the government introduces such ordinances to support mafia belonging to the government.”

He said that such ordinances of the government weaken institutions and damage the country. “We demand that a session of the National Assembly be convened on the economic situation and inflation,” he said, “The government has accepted our demand and tomorrow we will discuss the matter in Parliament.”

The PPP leader also spoke about Ehsanullah Ehsan’s escape from the custody of security forces.

“How the government will now respond to the victims of APS tragedy after Ehsanullah Ehsan’s escape?” he said, “No JIT has been formed for APS tragedy till date.”

The grieving families of the martyrs of the APS incident are still demanding for a judicial commission, he said, adding that the heirs are asking to be told how the massacre was carried out but no response has been received.

People and victims of terrorism want response from the government on Ehsanullah Ehsan’s escape, he added. “Now how will the government legislate on the FATF? What will be the response to global community that we are fighting terrorism and our biggest terrorist has escaped the country?”

The PPP chairman also said the government, including opposition, should solve people’s problems through parliament. “If the government wants to put forward legislation forcibly through executive power, then it should abolish parliament.”
