Video games have become a booming business in the last few decades.  Revenue in the sector is expected to reach $196 billion (£151 billion) by 2022.

With eSports – professional video game competitions – evolving into a very profitable industry itself, it is not surprising gamers are benefiting as well.

Top players are able to collect salaries and endorsement deals matching those earned by traditional athletes and Pakistanis are not far behind.

20-year-old Sumail Hassan Syed has been listed as one of the top-earning players with around $3.6 million earnings to date.

Hassan made history in 2015 when he helped his team, Evil Geniuses’, claim the Defense of the Ancient 2 (Dota 2) Asian championship in China.

He played an instrumental role in the team’s success as he was the core player (game-changing role).

Having moved to the United States only a few years back, the child prodigy had already made waves in the in-house gaming league for North America. It is there where he was picked up by one of the biggest e-sports team, the Evil Geniuses.

He is also the youngest gamer to surpass the $1 million (£769,000) in earnings, Hassan is one of the most sought after players on the gaming block with been featured in Time Magazine’s top 30 influential teenagers of 2016.

After his achievement with Evil Geniuses, he joined the Quincy Crew team along with his brother Yawar however due to some contractual issue he had to exit the team which is why he was unable to compete for the DreamLeague Leipzig Major and the WePlay! Bukovel Minor in 2019.
