KARACHI: Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on Sunday met the MQM-Pakistan leadership in Karachi, urging disgruntled party convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siaddiui to re-join the federal cabinet “for the country’s prosperity”.

The MQM-P senior leader had resigned in protest from his post as federal minister for information technology and telecommunication over non-release of funds for the municipalities in Karachi last month.

Sanjrani visited the party's headquarters in Bhadurabad where he was received by MQM-P leaders including Amir Khan and Fasial Sabzwari among others.

"I will request Khalid Bhai to take back his resignation and come back in the federal cabinet,” said the Senate chairman while addressing a joint press conference following the meeting.

Sanjrani said that Maqbool is a seasoned political leader while expressing hope that the estranged leader will reconsider his resignation and continue his work for the betterment of the country.

PTI govt expresses ‘inability’ to meet two MQM-P demands

He also assured the MQM-P that the federal government’s committee formed by Prime Minister Imran Khan is finding ways to address their grievances at the earliest.

The convener also felicitated the Senate chairman for visiting the party's headquarters and assuring the MQM-P of his support for the resolution of the issues.

"The MQM-Pakistan joined the ruling collation to resolve the issues faced by the people of Sindh particularly Karachi and not for the ministries," said Dr Maqbool.

According to sources, the MQM-P’s demands include the recovery of missing persons affiliated with the party, granting it permission to reopen its offices and kicking off development projects in the port city and other urban centres of Sindh.

The ruling PTI negotiating team, headed by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, had sought time to consult with the prime minister and security agencies on the issue of missing party workers and sealed offices, they added.
