Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the country’s greatest asset is the presence of a large number of young population and they have “potential and energy” to lift the country.
He made the remarks while addressing the cheque distribution ceremony under Kamayab Jawan programme held at the Governor House in Karachi on Monday.
The premier, who is in the metropolis on a day-long visit, also distributed cheques among the successful applicants of the national youth development programme.
“Allah has blessed this country with everything including natural beauty, historical sites but the greatest of all resources the country has is the huge number of young population,” he added.
Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Usman Dar, Finance Adviser Hafeez Shaikh, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar among other senior officials were present in the ceremony.
Praising the efforts made by everyone for the launch of the youth loan scheme, PM Imran said: “I want to congratulate Asad Umar, Usman Dar, Hafeez Shaikh for initiating this programme.”
The success of the loan programme, he said, is solely dependent on the system of merit. “The loan would be disbursed purely on merit without any discrimination and through transparent system.”
While reiterating the key to success, he said: “Only those countries have achieved success which followed the rule of merit and unfortunately despite having a lot of resources we failed to utilise our potential.”

Highlight the historic fact, the prime minister said the country was moving on a right path until it was following the merit system. “During 1960s the country’s bureaucracy was of international standard.”
Earlier addressing the ceremony PM’s aide Usman, who is also head of the youth loan programme, thanked the premier for attending the ceremony.
He also said there are mainly two objective of the programme to create job opportunities in the country and provide relief to the down trodden segment of the society.
Usman said the initiative was launched to promote the small and medium scale industries (SMEs) across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the economic adviser said despite inheriting flagging economy and huge debts ruling the PTI allocated Rs200 billion for the welfare of the lower strata of the society.
“This is Prime Minister Imran Khan’s most favourite programme,” he added.
The premier launched the scheme for youth in October last year under which young men and women are provided with loans to set up their businesses and also given a set of educational and skill-development opportunities.
He arrived in the port city earlier in the day on a day-long visit where he also held meetings with the Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and discussed matters related to the ongoing projects in the province. He also met the business community at the Governor House.
