Bureaucrats vow to follow merit

After objections by public representatives in Punjab, the bureaucrats are reported to have pledged to respect them but not to take any action in violation of merit. According to sources, Chief Secretary Azam Suleiman chaired a meeting at the Civil Secretariat. The sources said that the secretaries and commissioners attending the meeting termed the objections of the public representatives baseless.
According to the sources, the chief secretary told the officers, “Work should be done in accordance with merit, policy and law and should be done promptly. I will not allow any wrongdoing.” The meeting discussed the issues faced by government officials and their working conditions. The participants committed to stand alongside their colleagues for the rule of law, while working closely with the government to tackle obstacles in public service delivery.
