The Pakistani envoy to the UN has been instructed to raise objection on the blasphemous content put on the social networking website Facebook before the UN.
This follows directives issued by the Lahore High Court (LHC) to the Foreign Ministry to record its protest in the UN and instruct its permanent ambassador in the UN to move a resolution.
In court proceedings today, the deputy attorney general informed the court that the Pakistani envoy to the UN has been instructed to present a resolution.
The case has been adjourned till July 19.
A contest 'Everyone Draw Mohammed Day', which was organised by a Facebook user had sparked a major backlash in Pakistan, which saw massive protests across the country. The site was blocked for nearly two weeks in May by the LHC.
The controversial page was created by a Facebook user in response to American cartoonist, Molly Noris’s protest to the decision of US television channel, Comedy Central to to cancel an episode of the popular show “South Park” over its depiction of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
Noris, however, disavowed having declared May 20 “Draw Muhammad Day” and had condemned the effort and issued an apology. The page was subsequently removed by the creator.
