ISLAMABAD: Glowing tributes were paid to the late tabla icon Ustad Ajmal Khan in a specially organised a reference for him at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Sunday.

PNCA Director General Dr Fouzia Saeed said that Ustad Ajmal was a great artist of his genre and a very nice person with a humble nature and an always-smiling face.

The entire nation is indebted to him, Dr Saeed said, adding that the phrase “Milnay ky nahi, nayab hein hum” fit him well.

“Artists never die but remain in people through their work,” she added

Dr Saeed further said that Ustad Ajmal was a disciple of Bakhshi family and has rendered valuable services in the field of music. He spent most of his life in PNCA and Lok Virsa by accompanying great classical and semi-classical artists of the country on tabla.

The Bakhshi family also paid tribute to the legendary tabla maestro with Aafi Bakhshi presenting some of his poetry.
