Doctor accused of constable’s son’s murder shot dead

A police search operation did not result in arrests

FAISALABAD: A man accused in the murder case of a policeman’s son was shot dead by rivals near the Central Police Office (CPO) gate on Monday.

Police sources revealed that the deceased, Dr Syed Shahzad Hussain, was accused of two separate murders.

Hussain had come to notify his presence in the courts of the Additional District and Sessions Judges Nadeem Anwar and Muhammad Elias for separate murder cases.

The deceased was returning home from his counsel’s chamber when armed assailants opened fire on him at the District Kachehri Gate. The doctor received five bullet wounds resulting in his collapse on the spot where he lay unattended in a critical condition for at least 20 minutes.

The Dolphin Force confronted the armed gunmen who escaped leaving the vehicle behind. The police seized arms from the vehicle and shifted the victim's body to the Allied Hospital mortuary unit for postmortem. Forensic lab teams were also called on the site of murder to retrieve evidence.

The police started a search operation to arrest the suspects however no arrests were made so far. Police told The Express Tribune that the 40-year-old had a row with the residents of his village, specifically the Rajuka community.

Moreover, Constable Jafar Hussain, deployed on duty at the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Office main gate near the District Kachehri gate escaped the scene right after the incident.

Sources revealed that the police officers believed that the deceased doctor was involved in the murder of Constable Jafar Hussain's son, thereby, putting the policeman in limelight as one of the prime suspects in the murder case of the doctor.

A fellow constable recorded his statement to the police that after the incident, Constable Jafar Hussain received a phone call after which he fled the scene in uniform.

SSP Operation Syed Ali Raza said the matter is under investigation and the constable’s absence from the duty has been registered. It is reported that Dr Syed Shahzad Hussain, son of Sabir Hussain, was a resident of Chak No. 187 Kacha Jhumra area.
