KARACHI:

A division bench of the High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar put the federal and provincial governent, acting governor Sindh and others on notice on Tuesday in a public interest petition filed by three prominent citizens of Karachi against four ordinances promulgated by the acting governor for restoring the local government system, Police Act and Land Revenue Act.

Filing the petition through Muqeem Alam advocate, Ajmal Dehlvi, a journalist, Barrister Habib-ur Rahman, a former minister and a lawyer, and Arshad Vohra, a businessman, maintained that recent steps taken by the provincial government to wind up the local bodies system and the police ordinance were violative of Article 140 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

After hearing initial arguments by Khalid Ali Z Kazi on Tuesday, the bench ordered the issuance of notices to the respondents for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.
