ISLAMABAD:

The Executive Director (ED) of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) is likely to be changed, it has been learnt.

Talking to The Express Tribune sources said the current ED Pims Mehmood Jamal will be appointed as the principal of the newly established Federal Medical and Dental College at Pims.

The summary for this appointment was approved a few weeks ago but the notification has not been yet issued. Besides, few names for the post of ED have been sent to the Prime Minister.

These include Dr Altaf Hussain, former ED Pims, the incumbent Joint Executive Director Pims Dr Huma Qureshi and executive director of the Pakistan Medical Research Council (PMRC) among others.

However, there are chances that Dr Altaf Hussain might be appointed, sources added.

Sources said a big struggle to get this position is being made by many people having strong political backing.

He further added the change is being made as there was a lot of pressure from the people who were not satisfied with the performance of the current ED and did not consider him a good administrator.

When contacted, Dr Altaf Hussian clearly denied that his name has been sent to the Prime Minister for the post of ED.

Meanwhile, when contacted ED Pims Mehmood Jamal said, “I have no such information.”
