MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Masood Khan on Sunday stressed that the "power of pen, computer and camera" should be used to highlight the plight of Kashmiris across the globe.

In a message of felicitation to the newly-elected cabinet of Central Press Club Muzaffarabad, he said exposing of what is happening in Occupied Kashmir and India is the basic responsibility of local, regional, national, and international media.

“Our journalist fraternity has always kept the Kashmir liberation movement on top of their priorities, which is a matter of satisfaction,” he added.

In August last year, India had stripped Occupied Kashmir of the special autonomy it had for seven decades through a rushed presidential order.  Pakistan had strongly condemned the move and vowed to “exercise all possible options to counter the illegal steps” taken by New Delhi.

President Masood said that the Central Press Club Muzaffarabad has been playing an important role in the promotion of objective journalism in the liberated territory by highlighting important national issues to strength Kashmir liberation movement for more than four decades.

While expressing his high hopes with the newly-elected office-bearers, he said that they will uphold the past traditions and will play an active role in highlighting New Delhi’s brutalities in the disputed valley by exposing flagrant human rights violations at the hands of Indian troops.

The AJK president also emphasised on the need to only maintain the media momentum created in the world on the Kashmir issue but it is also the top responsibility of the journalist fraternity in Azad Kashmir to further expand it.

"There is a dire need to make people realised through the media that India’s hatred does not only target citizens of Jammu and Kashmir but the whole of South Asia,” Masood underscored.

While extending well wishes for the team, the AJK president greeted newly-elected President of Central Press Club Sajjad Ahmad Mir, Senior Vice-President Basharat Mughal, Vice-President Naseer Awan, Secretary General Zulfikar Butt, Additional Secretary General Saqib Ali Haidri, Finance Secretary Anwar Khawaja, Secretary Information Azkar Naqvi, and Joint Secretary Raja Ijaz.
