Two new shelters set up in capital

Appropriate measures to be taken for women who take shelter at Panah Gah

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) has set up two more shelter homes (Panaah Gah) in the city. One has been set up at Bhara Kahu while the other has been opened at Tarnol. The homeless and the needy. The decision to open the ‘Panah Gah’ was taken owing to the rising number of homeless people and the prevailing cold wave across the city,

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Sahfqaat told APP that “all the basic and necessary arrangements are being ensured [in the shelters] such as bedding, quilts, heaters, water and meals for the visitors."

He added that the two new 'Panaah Gahs' have been set up using tents to provide accommodation to approximately 60 people. These shelters, though, will be shifted to fabricated structures in three to four days, he added.

In response to a question, Sahfqaat said that expenses for the shelter homes will be borne by philanthropists while local administration staff will provide technical assistance to run the 'Panaah Gahs'.To another query, he said that only one or two women seldom visit the existing shelter in Sector  I-11. Should any woman seek shelter at the newly-set up ‘Panah Gah’, appropriate arrangements will be made for them.

Meanwhile, the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Chairman Faisal Javed visited the new shelter home and reviewed the facilities being provided to the homeless there.
