ISLAMABAD: President Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement Altaf Ahmad Bhat has said that the Pakistan Army is capable of “thwarting any misadventure along the Line of Control”.

While addressing an event as chief guest at Taleem-o-Tehqeeq Islam on Sunday, the senior Kashmiri leader said that the people of the Himalayan valley look forward to the political leadership of Pakistan, its armed forces and the nation for their support.

Bhat, who is also the founding member of Kashmir Movement, highlighted the ongoing Indian oppression on Kashmiris who have been facing the Modi government’s clampdown for over four months.

On August 5, India had stripped Occupied Kashmir of the special autonomy it had for seven decades through a rushed presidential order. By repealing Article 370 of the constitution, people from the rest of India will now have the right to acquire property in Occupied Kashmir and settle there permanently.

Kashmiris see the move as an attempt to dilute the demographics of Muslim-majority Kashmir with Hindu settlers.

Pakistan had strongly condemned the move and vowed to “exercise all possible options to counter the illegal steps” taken by New Delhi.

Moreover, the Kashmiri leader emphasised on the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. “Ulema and scholars are role models for rulers and the public, and they can further guide the nation with adequate research and knowledge.”

The event was also attended by prominent personalities including Jamaat-e-Islami (IOK) and Hurriyat Leader Ghulam Nabi Nowsheri who distributed certificates among M Phil scholars at the end of the ceremony.

Chairman Institute Dr Hafiz Habibur Rehman, Maulana Obaidul Rahman Abbasi and dozens of scholars including Major (retd) Abdul Qayyum, Ghulam Shabir Sheikh, Columnist Aqeel Tareen, Shafiq Butt were also present on the occasion.
