BAHAWALPUR:

A woman gave birth to quadruplets in the Nawal Medical Hospital, Model Town on Monday.

According to hospital staff at the Nawal Medical Hospital in Bahawalpur, Nazirabad Colony resident Kausar Bibi was admitted to the Obstetrics ward last night and after 15 hours of labour she gave birth to four healthy girls. “I was surprised when I conducted the ultrasound and we knew we had to deliver quadruplets. She hadn’t seen a doctor even once before the delivery,” said attending Dr Ishrat Mustafa. “Luckily everything went quite smoothly and the children are all healthy,” she added. Kousar Bibi delivered the four girls at 4 pm on Monday and several nurses at the hospital said that they had distributed sweets among all the wards. “It is a rare thing to see quadruplets being born and it is even more rare to see all of them healthy. This is a blessing,” said nurse Sohaila.

The father of the girls, Abdul Jabbar said that he was relieved that his children and wife were alright and that he was happy. “I am just glad to know they are all okay. When the doctor told us there were going to be four children we were worried about the delivery,” he said. Jabbar, who owns a cosmetics shop in Shahi Bazar, said that he already had one son. “I am delighted. Suddenly I am the father of five children when I thought I would be the father of only two,” he said.

According to the doctor, Ishrat Mustafa said that the first baby was born at 4:21 pm and weighed five pounds, the second baby was born five minutes later and weighs four pounds. “The third and fourth baby followed within the next ten minutes and one weighs four-and-a-half pounds while the other is five pounds,” Dr Mustafa said. “Overall, I am optimistic about all the children as it is common for quadruplets to be underweight. Still each child is in an incubator and they will be released in three weeks,” she said.

Fauzia Bibi said that she was delighted about the birth of her daughters. “I am just happy that they are all healthy and the doctor said there were no complications,” she said.
