The distribution of government advertisements will be done on a just and equality basis, Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan assured newspaper editors on Tuesday. “The government will not compromise on the freedom of media.”

He stated this while addressing a meeting of the Punjab Committee of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) presided by CPNE Punjab Committee Chairman Ayaz Khan at a local hotel.

CPNE President Arif Nizami, Punjab Secretary Information Raja Jehangir and Public Relations Director General Aslam Dogar were present on the occasion.

"We have no personal agenda and we want to take everyone onboard. We hope that the Pakistani media will keep national interest on first priority,” he clarified.

The president said that media can criticise government actions but it was out of the question that Pakistani media could be part of any agenda against national interest. Speaking on the occasion, senior Journalist Irshad Arif demanded that the provincial government increase the volume of government advertisements.

Former CPNE president Zia Shahid, former secretary general Aijazul Haq, Kazim Khan, Zulfiqar Rahat, Owais Razi, Akmal Chohan, Imtiaz Rohani, Waqas Tahir, Ashraf Sohail, Usman Ghani Saifi and a large number of editors were also present in the meeting.
