ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior Tuesday passed "The Trafficking of Persons (Prevention and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2019.

The meeting chaired by Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz directed the ministry to submit implementation status on the committee’s pending recommendations.

The session also discussed the issue of granting dual nationality to Pakistanis living in Malaysia.

The ministry informed the participants of the meeting that the government was planning to start negotiation with Malaysia on the issue of granting dual nationality to Pakistanis.

The committee also deliberated on the alleged fraud committed by the Jammu & Kashmir Cooperative Housing Society (JKCHS) and the subsequent submission of incorrect answer on the floor of the House.

The representative of the JKCHS held the previous society responsible for not including 54 plots in the revised layout plan and said that an inquiry against them may be initiated.

The committee directed the ministry, JKCHS and registrar to submit a detailed report on the matter.

The panel asked the circle registrar to submit particulars about the administrators of the society who had served in different tenures and information on projects including the data of the people who were allotted plots.

It also sought the details of the societies against whom action was taken due to the fraud committed by them.

The committee expressed concern over the frauds committed by the cooperative societies and decided to hold a separate meeting on the issue, which had resulted in loss of billions of rupees to the people.

The panel noted that societies used the name of government organisations to deceive people.

It directed the circle registrar to submit details of all registered companies/societies.
