RAWALPINDI:
The district health authorities have registered an FIR against staff of Basic Health Unit Dhok Budhal for administering expired polio vaccine to children, making video of the act and uploading it on the internet.
The authorities considered it an act of damaging the anti-polio drive. Punjab health ministry representative Muhammad Ilyas told Rawat police that the immunisation teams were administering polio vaccines to the children in the related BHU when they discovered that the vials had expired a month ago. A video containing this information was shared with a journalist who circulated it on media. Ilyas asserted that BHU staff including vaccinator Tahir Farooq, dispenser Muhammad, and security guard Abrar Hussain knew that the vials had already expired. The staff members, however, still used them for immunising children which, in itself, was a serious crime.
