As the year draws to a close, screen buffs all around the world are sure to be glued to their screens awaiting Netflix’s big reveal for the upcoming year. The streaming service maintains an annual traditional of promoting their upcoming releases, and this year end is no different with Netflix making several ‘coming soon’ announcements that have left viewers extremely excited.

Inspired by Vogue's recommendation, here are the top 5 shows and films that will be coming to your Netflix screens in 2020, and are front-runners in the race for big hitters.

1) Sex Education – Season Two

The first season of the hugely popular Netflix original Sex Education revolved around Otis and his friend Maeve setting up a clinic for sex advice at a secondary school. The two have zero sexual experience, and rely on Otis’ sex therapist mother’s expertise to dish out advice. The second season, which will be premiering on January 17, will see Otis piloting his own sex life with girlfriend Ola, simultaneously fixing his friendship with Maeve.

2) To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before: PS I Still Love You

2018’s smash hit; this adaptation of Jenny Han’s novel followed the YA love story of Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky. The movie propelled Lana Condor and Noah Centineo to stardom and cemented their status as romantic leads. The highly anticipated sequel, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before: PS I Still Love You, follows the two as they navigate their relationship before another recipient of her letters enters the picture. It will premiere on February 12, 2020

3) Messiah

Netflix will also be premiering a potentially controversial series titled, Messiah, on January 1. Based on the advent of the promised savior, it is being touted as one of the most anticipated releases from Netflix, and is also being slammed for seemingly normalizing the antichrist or the ‘false messiah’. A man claiming to be the messiah is shown gaining popularity, with CIA officer Eva Geller going undercover to investigate if the man is indeed a divine savior or a con artist.

4) Russian Doll – Season Two

Awaiting a release date, the second season for the much hyped show Russian Doll is being kept well under wraps, with almost no insight being revealed before the release. The first season proved to be a sleeper hit for Netflix with an intriguing storyline; Nadia Vulvokov finds herself stuck in a time loop, waking up and dying over and over again. Created by Amy Poehler, Natasha Lyonne and Leslye Headland, season two can be expected to follow the same format.

5) Selena: The Series

Based on the Grammy award-winning Tejano musician Selena Quintanilla-Pérez rise to fame and subsequent murder by a fan, the release date for this series is still undecided. Selena found success in the early 90s before being shot by Yolanda Saldivar in 1995. Now 24 years after her demise, the series aims to put the spotlight back on the superstar.
