Internal accountability board to investigate custodial death in Rawalpindi

Statements of all 30 policemen deployed at New Town police station had already been recorded, says police

RAWALPINDI: The internal accountability (IA) board of Punjab police has launched a probe into the custodial death of 24-year-old Muhammad Sakhi Sunny in New Town Police station.

The board officials have decided to include the suspended officials including SHO Malik Qaiser in the investigation process while it has also been decided to take help of the CCTV cameras footages in the police station.

Requesting anonymity, a police official, who is also part of the investigation team, told the Express Tribune that besides district police, the IA board, which is operated directly from Inspector General of Police (IGP) office, was also investigating the death of the citizen in the police custody.

He said that the statements of all 30 policemen deployed at New Town police station had already been recorded on the first day.
