Chhapaak is my most special film, says Deepika Padukone

The actor revealed what a successful movie means to her and why Chhapaak is so special for her.

The trailer for Deepika Padukone’s next movie, Chhapaak, released to resounding praise this Tuesday, and it seems that more than the reception of it, the movie itself is extremely close to Deepika’s heart.

In an incredibly moving trailer, Deepika delivers a performance that has the potential to be one of her strongest till date. She plays the role of Malti, a character that is based on Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor who went on to conquer her life despite her ordeal. At the trailer launch of her movie, Deepika revealed just how special Chhapaak is for her.

“Whenever I see the trailer, I get emotional. It is not often when you come across a story where you have to sit through an entire narration. It is not usually in the first few minutes of meeting that you decide on committing to something, and Chhapaak was this for me. It has been an incredible journey,’ she said, explaining her instant connection with the script and why she took upon such a challenging role.

The actor also revealed that she doesn’t care about how the movie fares at the box office and that its real success lies in being able to move people. “Irrespective of how it will be received, I feel it is the most special film of my career. The film is supposed to impact all of us, and that’s the reason why we did his movie. We made it with a lot of responsibility,” she said.

She went on to add what a successful film means to her. “For me, the success of the movie is in the impact it’s been able to have on people’s lives. Are we able to change people’s mind? It could be with simple emotions, and for me, that truly is the meter of success,” she elaborated.

Deepika Padukone slammed for profiting off of mental health

The movie chronicles the struggle of Laxmi Agarwal, who, interestingly, was present on set during the shoot, and Deepika shared how nervous that made her, saying, “This is the first time I am playing a character that’s alive, and that’s a big responsibility. When she came on the sets, I have never been so nervous. She walked in and she was glowing and happy. There is no better validation for an actor than that.”
