LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Sardar Husnain Bahadar Dreshak has said climate change was adversely affecting the agriculture and livestock sectors and an integrated strategy is needed to combat the negative effects of the changing environment.

He expressed these views while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Climate Change Awareness Centre set up by the Punjab University Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS) on Tuesday.

The minister said there were several solutions to control environmental pollution through the agricultural and livestock sectors, but these are not economically viable for our farmers.

“The students and teachers should find out solutions to control pollution and overcome economic problems faced by the two sectors,” he added.

IAGS Director Professor Saleem Haider asserted that the centre has been established to promote climate literacy among the public.

He said various climate awareness campaigns at different levels would be launched and a task force of 100 climate activists from Lahore would be trained in the first phase.
