ISLAMABAD: In an oblique reference to PM’s tweet after the top court’s decision on COAS extension of tenure, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Mariyum Aurangzeb on Friday said that “currently, a mafia is being imposed on Pakistan”.

PM Imran Khan on Thursday tweeted: “Today must be a great disappointment to those who expected the country to be destabilised by a clash of institutions. That this did not happen must be of special disappointment to our external enemies & mafias within – Mafias who have stashed their loot abroad and seek to protect this loot by destabilising the country.”

Talking to reporters in Islamabad, Aurangzeb said the “incompetent government” was exposed in the Supreme Court. She alleged that because of the government’s actions the parliament, economy, and opposition are locked.

“It was your [PM Imran] mafia, who changed the summary during the three-day proceedings of the hearing,” said Marriyum.

“Listen, Imran Khan, now the answer to your threats and abuses will be reciprocal,” she added.

It has been reported that the government would contact the opposition for amendments in legislation related to the extension/reappointment of an army chief.

PML-N spokesperson said the party is waiting for a detailed judgement of the court. “After the detailed decision, we will consult the leadership and formulate a future strategy on the platform of a united opposition,” said Marriyum.

She also said the anti-graft body only investigates people with the “surname of Sharif”. Even after six-month, no reference has been made against PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, she added.

To the National Accountability Bureau chairman’s remarks of “changing tides” perceived as the impartiality in the accountability process, she said: “Such change is rather towards us as the practice of making references under pressure continue and the opposition has been locked in the death cells.”

PML-N’s spokesperson alleged the references against Rana Sanaullah and Hamza Shehbaz were not being presented even after six months and lawmakers were not being brought to the parliament even after issuance of production orders.

“NAB only issues press releases on confiscation of Shehbaz’s property,” she said, “NAB is giving false statements through media.”
