Selena Gomez suffers a 'panic attack' before taking the stage for AMAs

She also sang an unreleased track that she wrote after a break up with Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez is back in the spotlight with her new songs from an un-released album after taking a hiatus from the music industry. However, reportedly the singer suffered a 'panic attack' before taking the stage at the American Music Awards nearly two years since her last live performance.

According to the E! News, the 27-year-old was 'putting a lot of pressure on herself' ahead of her return to the stage as the opener of the show at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday night.

"Selena definitely had anxiety and a panic attack before she went out and was putting a lot of pressure on herself," a source told the outlet.

Fans were somewhat concerned during her performance as she 'appeared overcome with emotion' while on stage.

Gomez hadn't been exposed to the spotlights of AMAs since 2017, and Sunday night was also her first live performance in two years. She donned a long-sleeved, figure-hugging black dress before changing into a mirrored corset to perform her two new songs. One of them was Lose You to Love Me, which is reportedly about her ex Justin Bieber, while the Look at Her Now ballad is an ode to overcoming obstacles.

"Feels good to be back," she wrote on Instagram. 'Thank you to my entire team and to my fans that stand by me. All of this is for you and because of you. excited for this chapter.'

Selena also shared a little of her own journey when she was honored for her mental health advocacy work earlier this year at the McLean Hospital's Annual Dinner. "Last year, I was suffering mentally and emotionally, and I wasn't able to stay all buttoned up and together," she said. 'I wasn't able to hold a smile or to keep things looking normal."

She registered herself for a mental health treatment program and checked into a facility last year. "After a year of a lot of intense work, I am happier, I am healthier, and I am in control of my emotions and thoughts more than I’ve ever been," she said.

During an interview with Ryan Seacrest in October, Selena praised her fans for keeping her strong throughout some difficult times.
