CM stresses utilisation of natural resources for progress

Kamal meets Federal Minister Omar Ayub, Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Jahangir Tareen

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal on Thursday stressed upon harnessing  the potential of natural resources to put the province on the development track. He was meeting Federal Minister for Petroleum Division Omar Ayub Khan and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Jahangir Tareen .

The leaders discussed the province’s political and development affairs.

“Balochistan has been blessed with natural resources which can initiate development in the entire country,” Kamal said. “But unfortunately we failed in reaping benefits from our resources due to lack of effective policies,” the CM told Tareen and Ayub while sharing Balochistan’s stance on its natural resources.

“Incumbent government has unveiled its first mineral policy while additional funds have also been allocated for natural resources development which would yield job opportunities for youth,” Kamal added.

Federal minister and Tareen corroborated with CM’s stance and pledged their full support to the provincial government.

High government officials also attended the meeting.

According to details, matters related to low gas pressure in the cold areas of the province, replacement of old gas supply pipelines and issues of load management were also discussed.

It was decided that attempts will be made to solve the problems of a common man on priority basis.

The federal minister assured Kamal that low gas pressure problem pestering the people of Balochistan would be addressed while dilapidated pipelines would also be replaced.

Anti-harassment cells

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal has directed all deputy commissioners to set up anti-harassment cells at their offices.

He ordered the deputy commissioners to take immediate action on complaints filed by women if they were facing harassment at their workplace, school, college or university.

“The anti-harassment cells at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and the offices of divisional and deputy commissioners will take measures to prevent harassment against women,” Kamal said while presiding over a meeting.

“The female staff at the cells will take action over the complaints,” he added.

The chief minister also directed the deputy commissioners to send reports on the complaints to the Chief Minister’s Office.

Balochistan Assembly Parliamentary Committee Chairperson Mahjabeen Sheeran, Balochistan Chief Secretary Capt (retd) Fazeel Asghar, Additional Home Chief Secretary Haider Ali, Provincial Ombudswoman Sabira Islam, Women Development Secretary Saira Atta, IGP Mohsin Hassan Butt and other officials attended the meeting.

The chief minister stressed the need for creating awareness among women about the anti-harassment initiative.

He announced that the government would conduct seminars at educational institutions to inform the people about the provincial anti-harassment act.
