ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to extend the date for filing sales tax and federal excise returns for tax period June 2011 considering the tense security situation in Karachi, says a tax official.

Earlier, the taxpayers were required to file returns by July 15, but now the date will be extended by 7 to 10 days. A notification in this regard would be issued in a couple of days, he said. Traders, industrialists, tax bar association and others had demanded an extension of 10 to 15 days in the deadline due to the volatile security situation in Karachi, Hyderabad and other areas.  FBR suffered a revenue loss of Rs2.5 billion because of the closure of businesses on Thursday, according to a tax official.
