In six out of 10 cases against Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-Haqiqi) chief Afaq Ahmed there was not enough evidence to go to trial, a report said in court on Thursday. Afaq had filed a constitutional petition asking for details of the cases being held against him.
The AIG Legal submitted a detailed report of these cases before a division bench of the High Court of Sindh (SHC).
The report said that ten cases existed against Afaq Ahmed. In six of them, no evidence was found and hence Afaq’s name was placed in column 2, which means that becasue there was not enough evidence, he was not sent up for trial.
It also stated that besides this, in two cases pending trial before ADJ East, Afaq has bail. He has yet to seek a bail in a murder case registered by the Nabi Bux police that is pending trial.
The bench read the report and disposed of the petition while ordering that no new FIR or case can be registered against him without permission from the court.
Afaq Ahmed had already filed an application to quash the proceedings in the last case which is fixed for a July 14 hearing before an SHC bench, Muhammad Farooq advocate told The Express Tribune that if this case is quashed Afaq could be released after seven long years. He has been behind bars since 2004.

If Afaq Ahmed is really a guilty or criminal then why the prosecution of MQM's home minister era failed to provide any evidence against him. MQM-A should handle this matter with care, this is jealousy that MQM-A doesn't want him free.
Why MQM doesn't want him involved in khi politics?
@Uza Syed: people from MQM should be placed in courts to decide who is criminal and who is not.
@Dr. Saleem Siddiqi: Sir, my question to you is, who is responsible of killing in last 8 years? Afaq Ahmed in jail and still someone playing a blood game in karachi. I think he is right person some thing wrong with MQM-A, PPP and ANP.
It is Azad Adliya for some and bias for some. I think he has not been convicted in any case from last eight years so what is so frightening if he is released?????
The game has started. It will not have a happy ending for anyone.
Z Mirza meets the criminal Afaq and had a word with High Court judge/s and the result is ........!
To predict the outcome of Mr.Afaq's case, one doesnot need to consult the spirit of Mr.Nostradamous .
Since the the people of this province has almost been demarcated as Urban and Rural ,thanks to Zulfiqar Mirza and Company , the Judges of lower and Apex courts are following suit .
Mr.Afaq will be rerleased soon by these Sindhi Judges as the pre-plan of Mr.Zardari to counter MQM on the streets of Karachi .
Mark my word .
Dirty game again started to woo Afaq to pit him against MQM as was done in the past.
Again there will be no-go-areas and more blood-shed in Karachi.
Larao aur Hukoomat Karo - British style of Government suits most to PPP.
