LHC directed to provide jobs to relatives of officials who had lost their lives while performing their duties.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday disposed of a petition seeking directions for the Police Department to provide jobs to relatives of officials who had lost their lives while performing their duties. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed was told by the senior superintendent of police (administration) that jobs were given only to the blood relatives of the deceased officials. Petitioner Muhammad Akram Butt was ineligible under this policy, he said. Justice Saeed observed that the anomaly should be removed from the policy to allow relief in cases where deceased officials were not survived by blood relatives. The petitioner had submitted that no job had been offered to the relatives of the police officials who had died in a suicide blast at the GPO Chowk in January 2008.
