ISLAMABAD: Irked over the absence of Postal Services Minister Murad Saeed, a Senate panel on Friday postponed its session without any proceedings.

The opposition members of the Senate Standing Committee on Postal Services proposed that a resolution should be presented against the minister.

The committee held its session with Senator Mian Muhammad Atiq in the chair. Its members expressed their disappointment over the absence of the federal minister. The chairman also expressed his annoyance over the deputy secretary of the postal ministry, who was supposed to come in place of the senior joint secretary, not showing up.

Committee member Rana Mehmoodul Hasan suggested that the session should be adjourned until an appointment was made with the postal services minister.

Shaikh maintained that a grade-20 officer of the postal service was available at the session while an office of at least 21-grade should have been present at the meeting.

“As per rule 198, the federal minister for postal services must also be here at the committee's session,” he added.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed said the proceedings should be boycotted in protest. The proposal to pass a motion against the minister was opposed by Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi.
