FAISALABAD:

A man locked up his wife, two daughters and father-in-law for opposing his second marriage.

According to eye-witnesses, Factory Area resident Abdul Razaq had locked up his wife, children and father-in-law in a room for four days for refusing him permission to contract a second marriage. A police party reached the spot but did not release the prisoners and they were eventually rescued by area residents.

Razaq’s wife Kalsum and his daughter Aqsa and Iqra said that their father had frequently beaten them after their mother refused to allow a second marriage. “He locked us in for four days and we barely had any food or water.,” Iqra, 18, told reporters. The family said that police officials had refused to assist them in filing a case against Razaq. On Tuesday morning, Kalsum and her father Munir Bukhsh appealed to the district police officer (DPO) and he ordered Factory Police to register a case against Razaq.

Police officials are searching for Razaq’s whereabouts. Kalsum and her daughters are currently in the hospital being treated for severe dehydration.
