According to sources in the Ministry of Health, President Arif Alvi has approved a new PMDC ordinance, while preparations to place PMDC under Pakistan Medical Commission are also complete.
Interestingly, the building was sealed and the record was taken into custody on a weekly holiday.
Earlier, the new PMDC ordinance was tabled in the Senate. Senators rejected it. After that Special Assistant to the PM Dr Zafar Mirza claimed that he would not stop and come with full preparation to get the ordinance passed.

Later, as the news of the new ordinance leaked, the PMDC employees staged a sit-in in front of their office and protested and went on a “no-work” strike.
Former PMDC president Tariq Bhutta took the employees into confidence, assuring them that there was no threat to anyone’s job. Thus, they ended their protest.
Now, President Alvi approved the new ordinance, a notification was issued and the building was completely sealed.
When doctors were contacted on the issue, they said that the medical field would suffer severely by dissolution of the PMDC.
The National Examination Board exams would be deferred and issues like confirmation of degrees of new doctors and issuance of licences to senior ones would emerge.
According to the PMDC sources, the inspection of medical colleges was under way and their reports were being compiled. They said that the process of merit list of colleges and licences would also be affected negatively.
Sources claimed that private medical colleges association was on board regarding the move, adding that as these medical colleges, which faced threats of closure for not being up to the international standards, were owned by politicians and influential private persons, the PMDC was dissolved and all its record was seized in order to sidestep the inspection process.
