Watch: Police official sitting atop bonnet of speeding car

He tried to stop the driver, who was not wearing seatbelt, but the car sped up, moving towards him

KARACHI: Video of a traffic police official sitting atop the bonnet of a speeding car, holding on to the windscreen to avoid falling off the vehicle, in an attempt to stop the driver from breaching traffic laws, has gone viral.

The incident occurred when an official of Gushan-e-Iqbal Traffic Section, Zahid Hussain, tried to stop a car near Nipa Flyover but instead of stopping, the driver increased the car's speed.

As a result, in order to prevent himself from being run over by the speeding vehicle, the official jumped onto the car's bonnet.

Sitting atop the bonnet, the police official continuously asked the driver to stop the car, but his words fell on deaf ears.



According to Hussain, the driver finally had to stop the car when he was intercepted by other citizens, riding motorcylces, near Nipa Post Office.

Speaking about the incident, Hussain said that he was on duty near Sir Syed University when he saw a man driving a car without wearing a seatbelt.

He tried to stop the car but the driver increased the speed instead, he said, adding that he had to jump on to the car's bonnet that was moving fast in his direction.

He said that he later came to know that the driver didn't intend to harm him and was in a rush because his daughter was hospitalised. Hussain let the driver go after issuing a challan.
