FAISALABAD:

Bluntly violating Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) resorted to aerial firing that lasted over three hours in various parts of Faisalabad on Monday, critically wounding three persons including a woman and her three-year-old daughter.

According to details, the party’s high command recently nominated office bearers for the PML-N city offices. To celebrate the nominations, workers of the PML-N brought out processions form different parts of the city.

Participants of the rallies were not only carrying weapons but also resorted to aerial firing, despite the ban imposed by the district administration under Section 144 of the CrPC which prohibits one from carrying weapons, their exhibition and holding a procession in the city.

The local police and civil administration made elaborate arrangements for the procession to pass smoothly and deputed at least 600 policemen to guard the rallies as they passed through various areas to the Clock Tower which was being supervised by two Superintendents of Police (SPs), six DSPs and eight SHOs of the areas.

A minor procession was brought out from the constituency of provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan during which a number of PML-N supporters resorted to aerial firing.

As a result, 35-year-old Safia and her daughter Noor sustained bullet wounds while travelling on Dijkot road. Both mother and daughter were immediately shifted to the DHQ Hospital. Shan, 13, also received bullet injuries and was also admitted to the DHQ Hospital.

No police officials made an attempt to restrain or arrest the concerned PML-N workers.

The Jhang Bazar police have registered a case against 20 persons on the charges of firing in violation of Section 144 of the CrPC.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and has asked the administration to take stern action against all those who were responsible for the violent act and injuring people. Sharif directed the administration to submit a detailed report to him within 24 hours. No arrests were made till the filing of this report.
