HARIPUR: City Traffic Police (CTP) has kicked-off Promise Campaign for prevention of motorcycle accidents. Filling station owners will be made to take a promise not to sell fuel to bikers without a helmet.

Keeping in view the traditions of Haripur’s people, they are bound to keep a promise, in this case, no helmet, no fuel.

Haripur District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Zahidullah met with officials from Private Education Network, filling stations owners, motorcycle dealers and mechanics at DPO office on Tuesday.

Addressing the participants, DPO said that motorcycle accidents were becoming a source of wastage of precious human lives. In connection with this, he added that the police have kicked-off Promise Campaign to get rid of them.

DPO told that all motorcyclists will receive messages until June 15 in which they will be given instructions and added that petrol pump owners will stop giving fuel to motorcyclists without helmets after the deadline. The official said that motorcycle dealers would not sell a motorcycle to people without a licence while the purchaser would be given two helmets at the time purchasing.

Motorcycle mechanics will promise that they would stop altering motorcycles for racing and one-wheeling, DPO Zahidullah said.

Talking to PEN officials, DPO said that awareness sessions have also been started at the school and college level to prevent motorcycle accidents and asserted that all private school owners should offer their full support to the steps taken by the police to safeguard the future of the younger generation to prevent loss of valuable lives in accidents.
