ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior approved the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) amendment bill and a resolution condemning Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.

“The accused in the rape-cum-murder of three minors in Chunian, Kasur has been arrested,” said Punjab Deputy Inspector General of Police Sohail Tajik while giving a briefing to the committee members during a meeting, chaired by Senator Rehman Malik, on Tuesday.

“The suspect lured the children by offering them money and then assaulted them,” said the DIG.

He said the Punjab police had also arrested another accused involved in broadcasting live videos of molestation of children.

“Recently, 12 cases of missing children have been registered in Chunian and in last one year, 182 such missing cases have been registered,” he added.

Issuing directions for compiling a complete report on the Chunian incident, Malik said, “A legislation will be introduced to bar the ‘compromise agreement’ with parents in cases pertaining to sexual assault of children.”

Malik said accused Sohail Shahzad involved in the rape-cum-murder of three minors in Chunian was caught, adding that the accused used to work at a tandoor and he himself had been molested in his childhood.

DIG Tajik said, “Pornography cases are on the rise due to the internet. One suspect, who made a live video of child molestation, has been arrested. Under the law, punishment for assaulting a person or animal is equal.”

Senator Malik said, “The whole nation, especially parents, are worried due to the increase in assault and murder cases of children. There should be use of forensic technology in these crimes. The interior ministry should provide funds for forensic labs like in Punjab.”

He appreciated the efforts of the DIG, SSP and constables in nabbing the suspect.

On the approval of the Nacta bill, Federal Minister Azam Swati said according to the amendment, the Nacta chairman will head the committee, while instead of the prime minister, the interior minister will head the board.”

Senator Wasim Shehzad said the government’s recommendation was right and they supported it.

Mian Atiq said, “It is to be seen that why Nacta has not yet been activated.”

Senator Malik took notice of the harassment of women at the Polyclinic Hospital, Islamabad.

An application was presented during the meeting in which the maid of the hospital said Security Officer Abdul Waheed and Supervisor Afsar Khan were harassing her since long and made “indecent demands” behind closed doors.

Senator Malik ordered the chief commissioner to conduct an immediate inquiry, saying that an inquiry into the incident would be conducted under Senator Atiq and severe action would be taken against the harassers.
