LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid clarified on Tuesday that Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) will not be closed and the incumbent government will make functional all the medical facilities at the institute.

She stated this during her visit to PKLI to inspect the new 25-room Indoor Block. Later, she also chaired a meeting to review the performance of PKLI. Director Dr Tazeem Zia briefed the provincial minister in this regard. The minister expressed displeasure over the delay in functioning of various machines installed at PKLI and gave a two-week deadline to Special Secretary Khalid Nazir Wattoo to address the issues being faced by the institute.

Six new operation theatres would immediately be established at PKLI, she said. "Former corrupt rulers of the previous government turned the PKLI into a white elephant, but the PTI government will transform it into the best treatment facility for kidney patients.
