A three-member bench, headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial, was hearing a case regarding sales tax.
On the Federal Board of Revenue counsel’s request to adjourn the hearing, Justice Bandial remarked, “We should not allow unnecessary adjournment of hearings. Advocates come prepared and judges also read files before coming.”
Bandial inquired as to why the FBR counsel from Quetta was not present. “Find out why he is not present. We have to end the cases. We do not want that from one side the counsel comes, while from the other an adjournment plea.”
The court made compulsory the presence of the FBR counsel’s representative during the next hearing.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case for an indefinite period
