ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered formation of a special bench to hear the federal government appeals, requesting extradition of suspects Abdul Qadir and Talha Haroon wanted by the United Kingdom and the United States, respectively.

A two-member bench, comprising of Chief Justice Athar Manullah and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb, heard the federal government appeals regarding court decisions against extradition.

Earlier, the federal government challenged the court’s decisions regarding extradition requests.

The court clubbed the second appeal requesting extradition of Talha Haroon to the United States with the first appeal before ordering formation of a special bench.

The court, in its order, maintained that the special bench would hear the appeals demanding extradition of the suspects wanted by the UK and the US.

“This is a key issue and we would ensure that it sees a permanent solution,” the court observed in its remarks.

The Attorney General Office should extend its cooperation to the high court in this regard.

A division bench of the IHC had earlier set aside the verdict permitting extradition of the two suspects.

The court directed implementing all legal requirements and due process in the case
