QUETTA: Local fishermen in Balochistan’s Jiwani costal city staged protest against illegal trawling and complained that despite commissioner’s direction, administration is unable to halt illegal activity in the sea. The protesters suspended fishing and kept their boats at a standstill at the Jewani coast to record protest. “Under the supervision of district administration, illegal trawling is being carried-out in Jewani and non-local fishermen are exploiting our rights blatantly,” Nakhunda Ghulam Nabi, a local leader of fisherman community said.  “Despite repeated requests officials are not taking any action,” he lamented.  The local leader alleged that police is protecting illegal trawling and is letting outsiders carry out fishing by taking bribes. “We briefed Makran Commissioner about our reservations and he visited the site and ordered action against illegal trawling, but district administration and police quashed away Commissioner’s orders,” Ghulam Nabi added.
