KARACHI: The mercury dropped and heat subsided in Karachi with the restoration of south-western winds on Sunday, after a four-day spell of rain. However, under the effect of the receding spell of rain, some areas in the city did receive light rain.

Areas, where it rained on Sunday, include Gadap Town, Surjani Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and University Road.

Over the past couple of days, a mild heatwave had gripped Karachi and winds from the sea had remained suspended, as a consequence of the development of a low-pressure system in areas surrounding Indian Gujarat and Rajasthan, in the Arabian Sea.

Drowning in apathy

During this time, the humidity level in the city rose up to 90%. However, heat intensity was reduced after it rained for four consecutive days in Karachi.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), mercury levels dropped in Karachi after the restoration of south-western winds and the temperature is expected to remain moderate in the city for the next few days.

However, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz has said that parts of eastern Sindh are still under the effect of the monsoon system and this can cause light rain in some areas. But he ruled out, he negated the possibility of heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains, thunderstorms expected across the country in the next 12 hours

On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Karachi was recorded at 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius. South-western winds blew in the city at 20 kilometres per hour.

PMD has forecast that the weather will remain hot and humid in Karachi today (Monday).
