LHC acquits four accused in warders’ murder case

LAHORE: Following a flawed investigation and insufficient evidence by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), the Lahore High Court (LHC) acquitted four convicts who were earlier awarded death penalty for killing 10 trainees of special jail warder course.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan announced in which convicts Karamat, Abdul Hafeez, Afzal and Zolifqar were acquitted. Earlier an anti-terrorism court had awarded death penalty to the accused in 2015.

The accused lawyer advocate Usman Naseem argued that a joint identification parade of the accused was made although this act itself was the violation of the Constitution, adding that the separate identification of the accused is made in light of the law.

He further implored the court that the injured prosecution witnesses had not identified the accused.
