Hailstorm: Two die, several injured as storm hits upper Sindh

Torrential rain and winds rock the area.

A heavy dust storm along with torrential rain and hailstorm hit some parts of upper Sindh on Friday and Saturday night.


Two children, Mairajuddin and Kainat, aged four and 11, died when the roof of their house collapsed in Jafferabad Mohalla, Jacobabad.

Their parents, Abdul Nabi Thaheem and Rukhsar, were injured in the accident.

Dozens of trees, signboards, hoardings and electric poles were razed to the ground in Sukkur, Rohri, Pano Akil, Ghotki, Shikarpur and Jacobabad. The dust storm was followed by torrential rain and hailstorm, which continued intermittently till Saturday morning. Two electric poles and a mounted transformer fell in Parsi Colony.  High tension wires snapped, cutting off power supply to Station Road, Parsi Colony, and Local Board for more than 15 hours.

Latest reports have not indicated a restoration in the power supply to these areas.

In Pannu Aquil the hailstorm continued for half an hour, injuring many people. Mairajuddin and Kainat when the roof of their house collapsed during the storm.
