RPO orders zero tolerance for custodial deaths

Instructs all district police officials to make surprise visits to police stations in their respective jurisdictions

RAWALPINDI: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Ahsan Tufail has directed all the police officers not to tolerate custodial deaths.

RPO Tufail was chairing a meeting of police officers regarding law and order situation. During the meeting, RPO instructed officers to ensure that suspects were arrested and booked as per law. Illegal detention, torture should not be allowed while covering up custodial deaths was out of the question.

He categorically said that custodial assault and deaths would not be tolerated in any case and directed senior police officers to remain intolerant towards the issue.

Further, RPO instructed all district police officials to make surprise visits to police stations in their respective jurisdiction for inspection of records and implementation on the clean and green campaign.

The police chief of Rawalpindi division directed the arrest of all suspects involved in heinous crimes. For this purpose, Tufail said that the officials should form teams on the level of a police station and should take a daily follow-up of progress in the cases.
