RAWALPINDI/ ISLAMABAD: An eighth class student who went missing from her home in Sector G-8 of Islamabad on Monday has been safely recovered on Tuesday police said.

Police officials, however, said they will share details with the media on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, over 350 grammes of gold nose pins were recovered from an airhostess of Pakistan International Airlines en route a flight to the UK.

On discovering that the flight attendant was carrying gold jewellery worth over Rs2 million rupees, officials of Airport Security Force (ASF) handed her over to customs officials who after a brief investigation allowed her to take the UK-bound flight without the jewellery. She was made to return it to a relative on the airport and continue with her flight.

According to sources, officials at New Islamabad Airport on Monday were undergoing briefing for PIA flight number 791 when airhostess reached the departure lounge. During checking, she was found in possession of gold nose pins weighing 350 grams.

The ASF staff at the counter barred the air hostess to proceed with the luggage and handed her over to Customs Inspector Jawad for investigation. The custom official asked the airhostess to return the unusual contents in her luggage to any trustworthy person or relative present at the airport after which she was allowed to board the flight. Custom collector Seema Raza Bukhari was approached for comment but without success.

Hashish seized

A drug smuggling attempt was foiled by ASF at IIA on Tuesday.

Abdul Jaleel from Hangu was travelling to Dubai when his luggage was scanned in the departure lounge. On suspicion, the suspect’s luggage was checked in which more than two kilogrammes of hashish was found tucked away in secret layer of the bag. ASF arrested the suspect and handed him over to Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF) for investigation.

SHO suspended

Owing to poor performance for curbing crime in the jurisdiction, Station House Officer (SHO) of Naseerabad police station has been suspended.

The suspension orders were given by City Police Officer (CPO) Faisal Rana.

According to the police spokesperson, Inspector Khalid Abbasi was suspended due to poor performance and rising crime rate in his related precincts.

A departmental inquiry is also underway against the official over corruption charges. The inquiry of the case against a couple charged for recording objectionable videos of female students while raping them has been handed over to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

FIA National Response Centre for Cyber Crime (NRC3) has taken up the investigation from the existing point on the request of Rawalpindi police.

A university student had exposed malpractice of suspects, Qasim Jehangir and Kiran Mehmood, before City police station. The suspect had informed the police that she was kidnapped by the suspects outside her college and was taken to Gulistan Colony where Jahangir raped her and his wife recorded the ordeal.

Police arrested both suspects who confessed to the crime in addition to exploiting 40 other girls and young women.

The equipment recovered including laptops and mobile phones is with Punjab Forensic Science Agency for forensic examination, which is yet to release a report. Well-placed sources told The Express Tribune that Rawalpindi police had requested NRC3 to take up investigation owing to the scientific aspects, which the agency embraced.

Search operation in Islamabad

Islamabad police conducted search operation in various areas of Shehzad Town police station and arrested three suspects including a woman, a police spokesman said. Police and law enforcers went door to door in 315 houses and interviewed 150 people of which three were detained for questioning.

During the operation law enforcers recovered three pistols, two guns, an SMG, 500 grammes of opum, 40 grammes of heroine, cash, a car and a bike from the three suspects.

Following special orders of Islamabad IG Aamir Zulfiqar, grand targeted search and combing operations are underway in federal capital. The purpose of these search operations is to curb crime and the menace of drugs pushing from the capital.

SP (Rural) Malik Naeem Iqbal led the operation participated by Rangers, Counter Terrorism Force, police commandos, women commandos,  Bomb Disposal Squad and other law-enforcement agencies. DIG (Operations) Waqar Ud din Syed has said that the purpose of these search operations is to heightened the security in Federal capital and to curb the crime.
