Good news: Eighty per cent cross the matric hurdle

Girls outshine boys in the science group.

Friday brought good news for almost 80 per cent of the candidates who passed their secondary school certificate exams. The girls outshown the boys to secure the top positions in science group of the SSC examinations conducted by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary (FBISE) in March 2011.


The results were announced in the federal capital in which top three positions were secured by the girls in Science subjects and overall passing percentage was 79.94.

According to the result, 61,015 candidates appeared in the exam, out of which 47,773 passed and 12,173 were unsuccessful.

In the Science subjects, Arooma Majid of Army Public School, Lahore Cantonment stood first with 1,022 marks out of a total of 1,050. Ayesha from Islamabad Model College for Girls (I-10/4) came second with 1,021marks and Naima Dawood from the same school again secured the second position with the same marks. Nimra Babar from Islamabad Model College for Girls (F-6/2) and Sumbal Wajid from Garrison Academy (Kharian Cantt) stood third position with 1,018 marks.

In the humanities group, however, the boys managed to turn the tables. Saad Jan from Institute of Islamic Sciences Satra Meel, got the first position with 940 marks, Hajran from Pakistan International School, Taj-Al-Deen Jeddah got second position with 937 marks and Waqas Mahmood Abbasi from Institute of Islamic Sciences Satra Meel stood third with 919 marks.

In the Science subjects a total of 39,140 candidates appeared, out of which 23,725 were male and 15,415 were female.

In Humanities group, a total of 8,247 students appeared for the exams out of 1,582 were males and 6,665 were females.
