Traffic plan finalised for Muharram

LAHORE: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Liaqat Ali Malik stated that foolproof traffic arrangements have been finalised for the main procession route for Muharram 9 and 10. Addressing a meeting on Saturday, the CTO revealed that two SPs, six DSPs, 72 inspectors and 1,351 traffic wardens will be deputed along the main precession route. All office staff will be deputed on roads to facilitate the general public and no vehicle would be allowed to enter the procession route from adjoining roads. The main procession will start from Nisar Haveli and conclude at Karbela Gamey Shah. Participants can park their cars and motorcycles at Nasir Bagh, Mochi Gate Bagh, Data Darbar Eye Hospital, Central Model High School and Bengali Park. Malik directed traffic wardens to keep an eye on suspicious vehicles and persons while on duty. Further, special parking lots have been arranged at several different points for participants. Traffic will be diverted to alternative routes from different points. Traffic diversion points along the main procession route have been identified as Akbari Gate, Bagh Ali, Chuna Mandi, Shah Alam Market Chowk, Peer Makki, Mori Gate, Punj Peer, Katchery, PMG Chowk, MAO College, Lady Wellington and Saggian. Traffic coming from Shahdara will be diverted to Lahore Railway Station via Azadi Flyover. Traffic coming from inner Circular Road would be diverted towards Mori Gate, Urdu Bazaar, Chowk Chatterjee, Law College Katchery Road and Nila Gumbad. No traffic would be allowed from Peer Makki U-turn towards Lower Mall, he added.
