Rights org hands over Kashmir aid supplies to Red Crescent Pakistan

Children are crying for milk and patients have no access to life saving drugs, says JKVoV chairman

Amid the ongoing clampdown in India Occupied Kashmir (IOK), Jammu and Kashmir Voice of Victims (JKVoV), a human rights organisation, handed over a food and medicines consignment to Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRSC) for IOK residents.

Secretary General PRCS Khalid Bin Majeed received the consignment from Chairman JKVoV Altaf Ahmad Bhat in the presence of Incharge Sweet Home Zumarud Khan, Secretary National Press Club Anwar Raza and other notables at PRCS headquarters in Islamabad, said a statement issued on Friday.

Chairman JKVoV said IOK was running out of food shortage and medicines were not available in stores and hospitals.

"Children are crying for milk and patients have no access to life-saving drugs," he said.

It's been over a month since the stringent restrictions including curfew and communication blackout are in place to head off protests in IOK after New Delhi abrogated the special status and bifurcated its only Muslim-majority region.

Bhat appealed to the people of Pakistan and AJK to drop medicines and food items at the nearest PRCS office in their localities for the people of IOK.

"It is time for the global community to come forward and lift the curfew in IOK such that food items can be sent there through International Red Cross (IRC)", he said, accusing India of committing genocide in IOK.

The PRCS secretary general said they will hand all food consignments to IRC. "We will also try to raise the humanitarian crisis emerged in IoK since August 5 with the international humanitarian bodies and urge them to come forward for the help of oppressed people," he added.

The Incharge Sweet Home, meanwhile, vowed to go to any length to help the people of IOK, adding that "Pakistanis stand with the people of Kashmir in this hard time."
