Biohazardous waste: Shaniera urges citizens to avoid Clifton beach after more washes ashore

A day after local authorities claimed that Clifton's Seaview beach had been cleaned of biohazardous waste, Shaniera Akram again took to social media to highlight that the beach – frequented by thousands every day – was still not completely safe for public use.

The Australian beauty recently shared alarming pictures on her Twitter of biohazardous waste and urged a 'state of emergency' to shed light on the issue.

A few hours after her shares went viral, the Sindh government and senior officials of the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) rushed to the site where heavy machinery and sanitary workers cleaned the shore.

A tweet, some heat and Karachi's Sea View is magically neat 

In her latest tweets, Akram said that people's lives are still at risk. "It is imperative that Karachi Authorities issue a state wide Public Service message TODAY to the people of Karachi not to use the beach until we know it is completely safe," she wrote.

"Medical waste is still washing up on our shore despite the continuing and appreciated efforts of CBC & DHA."

She also warned locals to stay away from the beach until the source of the medical waste is identified.

"DO NOT use the beach until we have identified the source & say it is completely safe. Extremely dangerous medical waste is still currently coming in from the ocean," she wrote on Twitter.

While Shaniera thanked authorities for the efforts, she stated that she is still waiting for Adviser to Chief Minister of Sindh and spokesperson, Barrister Murtaza Wahab to identify the source of the hazardous waste washing ashore on Karachi's most frequented recreational spot.

"Senator Murtaza did a good thing yesterday by coming to the beach & I thanked him for that. But I am still waiting on his call so I can clear up exactly what I saw and how important this issue is," Shaniera tweeted. "It can’t be fixed with one beach clean."
