Action against substandard cosmetics

Teams collected samples from few brands during open market sampling and sent them to the laboratory for testing

The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority has launched a crackdown on cosmetics brands which could not pass laboratory tests. In the first phase, a PSQCA special team raided different stores in the provincial capital and confiscated a large amount of substandard cosmetic brands and issued warnings to store owners, directing them to rid their shelves of the unregistered and illegal brands. According to the authority’s spokesperson, on the directions of Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, PSQCA Director General Abdul Aleem Memon ordered the Lahore zone conformity assessment team to initiate a crackdown against illegal and harmful cosmetics. Teams collected samples from a select few brands during open market sampling and sent them to the laboratory for testing. After receiving the test reports, the team initiated a crackdown against illegal and harmful cosmetics brands. In the first phase, teams confiscated a large quantity of cosmetics and banned production of brands not registered with PSQCA. PSQCA Deputy Director Asghar Ali said that action was being taken across the board and the operation would continue till all such brands were eliminated.
