Dozens killed as rains wreak havoc in Sindh
At least 30 people and dozens of sacrificial animals were reportedly killed due to electrocution and in other rain-related incidents in two separate heavy rain spells between July 29 and August 12 in the metropolis.
The majority of the deaths were reported due to electrocution, despite the fact that several areas of the city faced prolonged power outages.
Large parts of the port city, including almost all major thoroughfares, remain inundated as civic authorities struggled to drain out water that had collected over hours of persistent rain.
Contingents of the Pakistan Army and Sindh Rangers had to be called in for rescue operations.
Apart from Karachi, the situation also remained dire in other parts of Sindh with at least 15 deaths from rain-related incidents reported from different districts.
